A greyhound recently made headlines after it was seen being trapped on the roof on the 17th floor of an apartment in Penang.
Despite the public’s efforts to bring it to safety, it came to a heartbreaking end after the dog slipped and fell to its death this morning.
Was trapped on roof for 9 days
The dog’s plight came to light in a Facebook post by the Penang Animal Welfare Society (4PAWS), where it wrote of the dog being stuck on the roof at the Villa Kejora apartment in Relau since Aug 20.

After hours of failed attempts to coax the dog back into the building, 4PAWS deployed the help of several government agencies such as the Fire and Rescue Department, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), and Penang Civil Defence Force (JPAM).
Volunteers from non-profit organisations also stepped into help in hopes that the dog would be rescued.
The rescue team tried every method they could think of and even offered the dog fried chicken. Unfortunately, the dog didn’t take the bait and remained on the rooftop.

The Chinese daily reported that the dog’s body was discovered by cleaning staff at 8am today.

The dog’s passing was met with grief by the public, with one netizen dedicating a Facebook post to it.
“With deep sadness, we have to say that the ‘hero’ sadly fell from the 17th floor. Despite our rescue efforts, we couldn’t save it, and for that, we’re deeply sorry,” the post read.
