A morbidly obese man in Melaka had little choice but to call upon a group of firefighters for help as he was unable to get out from the bathroom on his own.
As a result, the firefighters had to carry him out and send him to the hospital using a fire department transport truck due to his size.
Had fever, asthma, & foot infection
According to Sinar Harian, the incident took place at a house located in Taman Sri Gemilan, Kuala Sungai Baru last Saturday (Jan 31).
Melaka JBPM Public Relations Officer Deputy Fire Superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid said firefighters received an emergency call at 2.56am and a team of eight personnel from the Masjid Tanah Fire and Rescue Station arrived at 3.08am.

There, they found the man, a 40-year-old teacher who weighed 350kg, stuck inside the bathroom and unable to move.
The man’s wife told the firefighters that he had been suffering from a fever for the past week and was on medical leave. He also had a history of asthma was experiencing leg pain due to an infection, which made him too weak to move.
He also had not eaten for the past few days as he lost his appetite, which exacerbated his weakened state.
Took 20 mins to get man out
As firefighters worked together to get the man out from the bathroom, it took them way longer than usual due to the cramped bathroom space and to give the man time to cope with the pain.

After 20 minutes, they managed to carry him out and used a fire department transport truck to send him to Alor Gajah Hospital as he couldn’t fit into an ambulance.
The rescue operation came to an end at 4.18am, with all personnel reported safe.
