A mother and her 10-year-old son were killed in a road accident while riding a motorcycle home after watching a getai performance (a live stage show typically held during the Ghost Festival) in Sungai Batu, Ipoh.

China Press reported that the crash occurred between 11pm and midnight on Thursday (Sept 25) along a village road.
The mother died on the spot, while her son was rushed to a nearby clinic but was later pronounced dead.
Victims identified
The victims have been identified as He Xue Yi (transliteration) and her son Chen Jun Jie (transliteration), both residents of Sungai Batu.
Pantai state assemblywoman Wong May Ing told reporters that Jun Jie is survived by an elder brother, a younger sister and a younger brother.

She added that the bodies of the mother and son were cremated yesterday, with the family bringing their ashes home today to set up a wake.
The funeral is scheduled to be held next Tuesday (Sept 30).
Cause of crash still unknown
At present, the exact cause of the accident remains unclear.
Yong said viral social media clips only showed the aftermath, where the woman was seen pinned under the motorcycle while her son lay on the road bleeding.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with Yong adding that she is following up with the police to obtain more details.
School pays heartfelt tribute
SJKC Sungai Batu, where Jun Jie was a student, posted a condolence message on Facebook.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our 10-year-old student Jun Jie and his beloved mother in a tragic accident. He was always remembered as a cheerful and kind child. Now, he is together with her mother in another world,” it wrote.
“Although life was short, the joy they brought us will remain forever in our memories. May he rest peacefully in his mother’s embrace. We will always remember you, dear student. May you and your mother rest in peace.”
